Midland
Road Manor is conveniently located just minutes from Southern Pines,
Aberdeen and Pinehurst. The towns of Southern Pines and Aberdeen are
both historical towns with period storefronts in their commercial areas and
fine older homes. Both have picturesque railroad stations and Southern
Pines is an Amtrak stop. Local businesses include antiques, jewelry,
books, tack shops, fabrics and clothing. Several excellent breakfast and
lunch shops are open.
Major
chain food, drug and department stores are located in shopping areas
away from downtown.
The
Village of Pinehurst is reminiscent of an English country village.
Interesting businesses as well as restaurants and coffee shops make an
outing very enjoyable. The famous and historic Carolina hotel and the
pro shop for the Pinehurst courses are short walks from the village
center. Both buildings feature memorable photos and trophies from
historic golf history. Walking tours allow the visitor to see many of
the fine homes and cottages in the village.
There
are many excellent local restaurants and bars in the area that serve a
wide variety of food and drink at nominal prices. There are also many
national chain eateries. All are within a short drive away.
There
are over 40 golf courses in the surrounding area, including the famous
Pinehurst #2 and Pine Needles golf courses that will again host
the Men's U.S. Open in 2005 and the Women's U.S. Open in 2007. We can
arrange for guests play at most courses at reduced rates.
Southern Pines is home to many beautiful horse farms. A pleasant
drive along Young's Road will reveal broad pastures, beautiful homes and
magnificent horses. Horse activities are held virtually every week
during the year and the famous Steeplechase at Stoneybrook is held each
year on the first Saturday in April.
Other nearby attractions include the Botanical Gardens at Sandhills
Community College, The North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro, the Airborne
Museum in Fayetteville, Scottish Games in Laurinburg, Antiquing in
the village of Cameron and drag racing at Rockingham. Distinctive
pottery is made in several locations around Moore County.
